PASITOS HACIA LA LECTURA is a reading readiness program developed especially for Spanish-speaking kindergarten students. Its objective is the development of a firm foundation in beginning reading readiness skills with special emphasis given to the five Spanish vowels and five beginning consonants & syllables. It was first developed in 1984 in an actual bilingual kindergarten classroom and was revised in 1994 to include shared reading materials for a literature-based approach to reading readiness. Because the program has been written for and used with very young children, teachers find the lessons developmentally appropriate and at a level of difficulty that promotes self-confidence rather than frustration. The program is especially geared for "at risk" students who enter kindergarten with minimal readiness skills or experience.

Program components include 10 student workbooks, 5 teacher manuals and supplementary worksheets for workbooks 1-5, alphabet cards, 13 patterned language books in Spanish with masters for reproducible "little books" for students.
